In place of today's treasure, I wanted to make sure you were all aware of
the upcoming release of Walden Media's "Charlotte's Web"
(undoubtedly a treasure in our collections). You may want to pick up
a couple of extra paperback copies when you have a chance.

Below is an exciting opportunity in conjunction with the release of
this movie.

Please forward this information to
interested parties:
Region III schools
have an opportunity to participate in a project on
Wednesday, December 13 called "Break the World Record" in
conjunction with the release of Walden Media's "Charlotte's
Web".

Walden media, Paramount Pictures, Harper Collins,
Nickelodeon Movies etc. are teaming up
to break the world record of
having the most people reading excerpts from Charlotte's Web
simultaneously in different locations.  It is also to promote the new
version of the movie coming out in December.

We at Region
III decided that it is too short a notice with too many requirements
to
participate with the entire nation but it would
be an interesting and
powerful opportunity to have several (possibly
MANY) schools participating
at the same time reading the same
book.

We would like to be able to broadcast our version of the
event over our
Net3 - participants in the Reading Teacher
Partners project can accomplish this via their polycoms. Other
campuses can go to their Net 3 sites or contact us to see
if we have
a polycom camera you could check out and set up in your
classroom.

The one concern you have to
consider is that you have to get
parent permission to have your
students filmed and then for it to be
broadcast out across the
region.

Possible scenarios:
* reading buddies from higher grades go to the younger
students and read
* choral reading - whole class, classes read
to each other
* community members invited to participate
I
am sure you have even more creative ideas!

Your site  will
read excerpts of your choice from Charlotte's Web for the
entire half
hour on December 13 from 11:00 am to 11:30 am with a sign in at
10:30
am.

The objective: EVERYONE READING AT THE SAME
TIME -WHAT A LOVELY LITERACY NOISE!

You do not
have to register in the system.  Just contact one of the following to
let us know you are interested in joining us to "Break
the Region III Record".
* Mary Anne McLemore,
ext.298,
* Terri Smith-Chavira, ext.290,
* Gail
Repka,ext.318,
* Cindy Franklin, ext.277
