I recently read:

The Amazing Life of Birds (The
Twenty-Day Puberty Journal of Duane Homer Leech)
 by Gary Paulsen

"As twelve-year-old
Duane endures the confusing and humiliating aspects of puberty, he watches
a newborn bird in a nest on his windowsill begin to grow and become more
independent, all of which he records in his journal. "

This is definitely a secondary book.  It's kind of slow getting
started, but I found myself laughing out loud at poor Duane!  Paulsen
does a good job of keeping it clean.

This would not be one of
my first picks, but it was a fun read.

Attached you
should find an additional review from Clyde Ruth Beyer at Crain MS in
Victoria ISD.  Clyde notes that in her review, the dark, big print is
to share w/kids, while the small print is for us.
